12 South Indian films shot in the Andhra University Campus, Vizag

Andhra University campus is known for its ancient buildings, and very natural locations, where most of the Telugu movies are shot. It is a delight for Andhra University students to watch their favourite film stars every now and then. The vintage atmosphere adds more beauty to the place. Most often scenes pertaining to college, flashbacks, fights, and love proposals are shot on this campus. Here are twelve South Indian films shot in the Andhra University campus in Vizag.

#1 Ninnu Kori

The romantic comedy-drama, shot in the South campus of Andhra University, is a beautiful story with Nani portraying the role of Umamaheshwara Rao pursuing his PhD at the Statistics Department. He falls in love with Pallavi (portrayed by Nivetha Thomas) and later the duo break up. We can see the clock tower of the Physics Department, where Pallavi confesses her love for Uma. Later, we have the scenes at the Zoology Department where the couple break up.

#2 Vunnadi Okate Zindagi

Vunnadi Okate Zindagi is a beautiful tale of friendship between Vasu and Abhi (portrayed by Ram Pothineni and Sree Vishnu respectively). Most of the scenes were shot in the North campus, also known as the Engineering campus, where the introduction song, the Friendship Anthem, was shot. The Principal Block and the basketball ground were the places where this song was shot.

#3 Solo Brathuke So Better

This comedy-drama, released post the Covid-19 lockdown, is the story of a guy who preached singlehood. A couple of scenes, and song sequences, have been shot in the North, and South, campuses of the university.

#4 Sillunu Oru Kaadhal/Nuvvu Nenu Prema

This is a 2006 romantic Tamil movie starring Suriya, Bhoomika, Jyothika and other famous actors. The song “ Preminche Premava” was shot on campus where one can see the Physics Department and one of the many sports grounds.

#5 Taxiwala

The thriller movie Taxiwala was shot in the Parapsychology Department of Andhra University’s South campus. The scene shot in this department shows one of the main characters, Sisira Bharadwaj (played by Malavika Nair), carrying out research. This movie also stars Vijay Devarakonda. 

#6 Premam

The Telugu remake of a famous Malayalam movie, Premam has lead roles played by Naga Chaitanya (portraying the role of Vikram) and Shruthi Haasan (portraying the role of Sithara). A ragging scene was shot in the North campus where Naga Chaitanya mistakes Sruthi Haasan to be his junior and tries to rag her but later realises that she was one of the faculty members. A few other scenes were shot in the South campus. 

#7 Jaanu

Jaanu, starring Sharwanand (portraying the role of K. Ramachandra),  is the Telugu remake of the Tamil film 96. There is a famous scene where the lead actor talks to his lover for the first time and the scene was shot at the Physics Department on the South campus. The scene shot in AU comes during the flashback where the hero goes to meet the girl whom he was madly in love with.

#8 Uppena

The teenage romantic drama Uppena is the debut film of Vaishnav Tej (portraying the role of Aasi) and Krithi Shetty ( portraying the role of Sangeetha). The college scenes, mostly classroom-based, have been shot in Andhra University. This movie was shot prior to the Covid-19  but the release was postponed due to the lockdown. 

#9 Maha Samudram 

The 2021 release Maha Samudhram is a multi starrer with Siddharth ( portraying the role of Vijay) and Sharwanand (portraying the role of Arjun). The female leads are Aditi Rao Hydari (portraying the role of Mahalakshmi) and Anu Emmanuel (portraying the role of Smitha).  A part of a beautiful song “ Hey Thikamaka Modale” was shot in the South campus basketball court where Anu Emmanuel comes to watch Sharwanand play. While a few other scenes were also shot on the South campus.

#10 Kshanam 

Kashanam is a mystery thriller film with the lead role played by Adivi Sesh as Rishi and Adah Sharma as Shwetha. A part of the movie was shot in the very famous V.S. Krishna Library of  Andhra University. Another scene is in a song where Rishi goes and picks up Shwetha. This scene was shot at the Engineering campus. 

#11 Endukante Premanta

The  2012 romantic suspense, Endukante Premanta, was simultaneously shot in Tamil as Yen Endral Kadhal Eben. This was directed by A. Karunakaran is one of the famous directors. In this movie, the flashback was shot at AU.  Scenes at a bus stop, and other college scenes, were shot in the South campus. 

#12 C/o Kancharapalem

Last on the list of South Indian films shot in the Andhra University Campus in Vizag is C/o Kancharapalem. This Telugu film was initially a short film but turned out to be a full-length film which got distributed by Rana Daggubati. This movie was screened at the New York Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne as well. A critical scene between a middle-aged man and a young girl in the film was shot at Andhra University.
