NCERT to focus on improving the quality of education

The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) is all set to improve the quality of education from the coming session by developing handbooks, study materials and also improving the teaching and learning aids. The director of NCERT Hrushikesh Senapati spoke at the alumni meet of Demonstration Multipurpose School in the city and said, “We are working on developing curriculum for various age groups and to facilitate better learning. Focus will be given on research in improving the education system”. More than 500 alumni have participated in the meet and the theme of the event was ‘Back to School’.

Senapati said that NCERT will collaborate with DMS and come up with new spheres of education. He added, “The school has been a major help in implementing the NCERT policies and curriculum over the years. There are many long standing demands of the school, which are under active consideration of the council”. The school was set up in 1964 under Regional Institute of Education (RIE) set up by NCERT, which was first of its kind in the country to implement the model NCERT course from class I to XII.

“It feels great to be back in school. The event has been aptly named as Back to School and gives a feeling of nostalgia”, said the union economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das, who is also an alumni of the renowned school.

Union oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of an auditorium in the school premises and addressing the people he said, “We must not forget the alma matter and always stay connected and work towards brining developmental reforms time to time”.

The president of the alumni association Rajib Sekhar Sahoo said, “The school has a glorious past and ambitious future. The school has produced many notable alumni who have made the state and the country proud”. The alumni association had formed a corpus fund of Rs 20 lakh, which will be spent for the development of the school.  Archita, an Odia actor who is also an alumnus, was the major attractions of the event.
