Vizag reported the biggest spike on a single day with 193 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday as the district tally rose to 2934. According to COVID-19 Special Officer for Visakhapatnam, Dr PV Sudhakar, 1004 patients are undergoing treatment in the district and 1879 individuals have been discharged after recovering from the virus. Two more patients succumbed to the infection to take the death toll in the district to 51.
Ambedkar Nagar, Bakkannapalem, Carpenters colony, Deendayalapuram, Jaya Bharat Nagar, Karasa Police Quarters, Laxmi Narayana Nagar, Lakitha Nagar, Mandavari Veedi- Dondaparthy, MMTC Colony, Pitapuram Colony Vuda quarters Prasanth Nagar – Kommadi, MTC Colony, Rajendranagar, Velampetta – Chittivalasa M, Sramika Nagar, Seethampeta, Srinagar – Dondaparthy, have been identified as the new containment clusters in Vizag in wake of the new COVID-19 cases. As on 19 July evening, Vizag reported 161 very active clusters, 203 active clusters, 183 dormant clusters, and 39 denotified clusters.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh registered as many as 5041 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, registering the sharpest spike. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh has now climbed to 49,650. All the new cases have been reported from the state with none of the returnees from other states and foreign countries testing positive in 24 hours. East Godavari reported a record 647 new COVID-19 cases in a single day while Anantapur, Srikakulam and Chittoor accounted for 637 cases, 535 cases and 440 cases respectively.
31,148 samples were tested across Andhra Pradesh between Saturday and Sunday. So far, Andhra Pradesh has tested 13,15,532 samples for COVID-19. While 22,890 individuals (including the 1106 individuals discharged today) have been discharged so far, 22,890 coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh have been marked active as on Sunday afternoon.
