A task force of the Andhra Pradesh Police has caught a team smuggling a huge quantity of ganja (close to 860 kg of ganja) in Visakhapatnam Agency. The incident happened at Andravara village in the Pedabayalu Mandal.
According to the police, on receiving information about the ganja consignment being transported, the Anakapalli Divisional Task Force caught a vehicle that was about to be used for smuggling ganja. The task force seized 860 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 6 lakh, and vehicles that were found near an Anganwadi Centre in the village. The two persons who were involved in the ganja smuggling were nabbed on the spot.
The Task Force has handed over the bags containing ganja at the Paderu Exchange Station.
In another case of ganja smuggling, Vizag Rural Police arrested four persons, belonging to Uttar Pradesh, for transporting dry ganja. The incident happened at KD Peta near Vizag on Monday. The police had nabbed the culprits as they were smuggling the ganja on bikes in Visakhapatnam Agency. A total quantity of 10kg of ganja was seized.
Both cases of ganja smuggling have been registered.
This is the second time in two weeks that large quantities of ganja got seized in Visakhapatnam District. Recently, 3 persons, including a police constable, had been arrested by Nakkapalli Police trying to smuggle 450 kg of ganja. The ganja problem has been plaguing us for quite a few years now. From awareness drives to stringent task force operations, the District Police has been actively trying to curb the smuggling of ganja in Visakhapatnam.
