A road accident took place at Nakkapalli near Vizag on Tuesday morning. It involved four people; two ladies, a man and an infant. In the accident, the two-wheeler that they were travelling on had hit a divider near Uddandapuram Junction on the National Highway-16 in Visakhapatnam District.
The two deceased have been identified as sisters, 22-year-old Durga Kameswari and 24-year-old Pavani. Both are native to Boddepalli village in Narsipatnam Mandal.
According to the Nakkapalli police, on Tuesday, Durga Kameswari, along with her husband Raja Babu, their five-month-old daughter and her sister Pavani, were going to Nakkapalli after darshan at the Talupulamma Temple in Tuni of East Godavari District. At one point, Raja Babu, who was steering the two-wheeler,
reportedly lost control over the vehicle near Visakhapatnam and hit the divider, resulting in an accident. Immediately, all of them fell on the opposite side of the road after hitting the median.Unfortunately, a heavy vehicle coming towards Tuni ran over Durga Kameswari and Pavani and they died on the spot. The vehicle also ran over Raja Babu’s leg injuring him severely. The five-month-old baby also received minor injuries. Another oncoming lorry, behind the heavy vehicle, swerved out of the way, avoided an accident but ran into a drainage beside the road.
Soon after the incident, locals shifted Raja Babu to a hospital in Visakhapatnam. The driver of the heavy vehicle, involved in the accident, escaped from the spot. The police are verifying CCTV cameras to trace this heavy vehicle.
Pavani’s husband registered a complaint with Simhachalam police. Further investigation is underway. This incident brings light to the extreme danger of triple riding on a two-wheeler as well as not using protective headgear. This is the third major road accident in Visakhapatnam District in the last one month.
