292 garbage collection vehicles sanctioned for Visakhapatnam District

Towards a cleaner and greener city, 292 new garbage collection vehicles have been allotted to the Visakhapatnam district under the State Government’s Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) initiative. The garbage collection vehicles were flagged off by YSRCP Rajya Sabha member, V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, State Tourism Minister, M.Srinivasa Rao, and other officials at the Beach Road on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Reddy said that 672 vehicles have been sanctioned to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Of the total sanctioned vehicles, 292 garbage collection vehicles have been provided in the first phase. He added that the aim was to make Visakhapatnam the cleanest city.

GVMC Mayor, G Hari Venkata Kumari, and GVMC Commissioner, G Srijana, among others were present at the occasion.

It could be noted that in 2020, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had made a beginning to make the city dustbin free. As part of this initiative, the civic body had removed dumper bins in 20 percent of the city and deployed garbage collection vehicles to collect door to door in the city. Over 150 mini garbage collection vans were operational then. With the additional sanction of 292 new garbage collection vehicles, the process of garbage collection and management in Visakhapatnam would become more efficient.

On the same day, V Vijaya Sai Reddy laid the foundation stone for the construction of a convention centre and a park in the Visakhapatnam district. While the convention centre will come up near Yendana, the park will come up at ASR Nagar, Madhurawada. The convention centre is estimated to be built with a budget of Rs. 4 crore. Of the estimated costs, Rs 2 crore will be provided by Mr Vijaya Sai Reddy under his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds.
