The second edition of the DRM Cup All India Invitation Volleyball Tournament-2021 was kicked off in Vizag on Sunday, 24 October 2021. Apart from a decent turnout of viewers, the tournament was also attended by Divisional Railway Manager, Anup Kumar Satpathy, as the Chief Guest. Visakhapatnam West Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), PGVR Naidu, was the Guest of Honour for the event. The tournament is being organised by the East Coast Railway Sports Association (ECoRSA) at the Waltair Railway Stadium.
8 teams are participating in this volleyball tournament in Vizag, representing the Waltair Railway Division, Waltair Sports Academy, Khurda Road Railway Division, Customs & Central Tax GST, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
The first match was between the ECoRSA Khurda Road team and Customs & Central Tax GST team. The Customs & Central Tax GST team won that match in straight sets (25-22 & 25-22). However, the second match of the evening, between ECoRSA Waltair and Vizianagaram teams, got interesting. Played over three sets, there wasn’t much to separate the two teams. At last, the ECoRSA Waltair team won 20-25, 25-22, and 27-25.
During the volleyball tournament in Vizag, DRM Satpathy talked about the developed sports infrastructure that is at the Waltair Sports Complex. He also highlighted the great sporting talent from all teams that is on display in this tournament. MLA PGVR Naidu echoed these sentiments, hoping that the tournament receives a good turnout.
The teams at the 2nd DRM Cup All India Invitation Volleyball Tournament-2021 have been classified into two pools A and B. Pool A consists of the ECoRSA Waltair, East Godavari, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam teams. Pool B consists of the Customs & Central Tax GST, Khurda Road Railway Division, West Godavari and Sports Academy Waltair teams. Day 2 of the tournament, on 25 October 2021, is scheduled to begin at 3 PM at Waltair Railway Stadium
