Following Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s announcement in the Assembly regarding the possibility of setting up 3 capitals for Andhra Pradesh, opinions have been surfacing on social media platforms. The Chief Minister said that even AP must be innovative and take inspiration from countries like South Africa that have three capital cities. Mr. Reddy said that Visakhapatnam can be the executive capital, while Amaravati can be the legislative capital and Kurnool – the judicial capital.
He added that he would have liked to have Amaravati as the state’s only capital, but the project has tuned out to be expensive for the state’s exchequer. Now, the Chief Minister has suggested that instead of investing all the funds in one city alone – the concept of decentralization be applied, and three capitals can be setup. He said that since Visakhapatnam already has the infrastructure, it wouldn’t cost much to set up government offices including Secretariat and other departmental offices in the city.
Dissenting the concept, opposition leader and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the YSRCP government is trying to “kill” the city of Amaravati. He was alluding to the cancellation of projects which were given a green signal during the TDP’s rule in the state. He added that such decisions by the government could stall development and decrease revenue.
Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan too, said something similar and said the government must look into the common man’s problems.

You Must know something,
Decentralized Governance is the Best for the Fast Development Compartively to the Other..!
Setting Up HC in Kurnool is the Long lasting dream of most of the Youth in Rayalaseema!
Vizag can be seen as Business capital and Now Executive!

So #Amaravati will be the Nagpur of AP. With the legislative assembly readily available, this is the best decision. Vizag for the Executive Capital n Kurnool for the Judicial Capital are perfect choices n justified. this would pave way 2 integrated development of AP. ? @ysjagan

Citing the example of #SouthAfrica for having 3 capitals is completely unjust, given the historical context of that country is very different from that of #AndhraPradesh.
If the govt lacks sufficient funds to build a capital of grandiose, it can think of a low status capital !

Idiosyncratic, interesting, innovative and important democratic initiative in #AndhraPradesh by @ysjagan for decentralisation of power, with three state capitals: #Visakhapatnam (executive), #Amaravathi (legislative) and #Kurnool (judicial).

Decentralising development doesn’t mean destruction of #PeoplesCapitalAmaravati & decentralisation of capitals. South Africa had a completely different trajectory and history compared to Andhra Pradesh. These decisions create more uncertainty among the people & businesses.— Ram Mohan Naidu K (@RamMNK) December 18, 2019
