In what might be seen as some relief to citizens and district authorities, Visakhapatnam reported a dip in the number of coronavirus cases on Friday. As per the official update received this evening, 32 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Visakhapatnam as the district tally reached 2562.
According to the COVID-19 Special Officer for Visakhapatnam, Dr PV Sudhakar, 871 patients are undergoing treatment in the district and 1644 individuals have been discharged after recovering from the virus. One patient succumbed to the infection to take the death toll in the district to 47.
Annamraju Nagar, APSEB Colony, BC Colony- Yendada, Bindra Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Gandivari Veedhi, Naidu Quarters-Gopalapatnam, Parvathi Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Ramalakshmanna Puram, Relliveedhi New, Sagisubbaraju Street, Sramasakthi Nagar, Subash Nagar, Venkatanagaram, and RK Beach have been identified as the new containment clusters in Visakhapatnam in wake of the new coronavirus cases. As on 17 July evening, Visakhapatnam reported 173 very active clusters, 186 active clusters, 156 dormant clusters, and 39 denotified clusters.
As per estimates, the coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh are likely to peak in August with the curve likely to flatten from October. Visakhapatnam District Collector V Vinay Chand said that the district might record 10,000 coronavirus cases by September, going by conservative estimates.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh saw the coronavirus tally surpass the 40,000 mark on Friday. The total now stands at 40,646. As per the bulletin released by the Health Department of Andhra Pradesh this afternoon, 2592 of these new cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh while individuals from other states and countries accounted for 8 cases and 2 cases respectively. Andhra Pradesh also registered 42 new casualties due to coronavirus in 24 hours.
20,245 samples were tested across Andhra Pradesh between Thursday and Friday. So far, Andhra Pradesh has tested 12,60,512 samples for coronavirus.
