4 work from home centres for IT professionals in Visakhapatnam

As the Covid-19 situation continues to subside in the state, many IT companies are pondering whether to reopen their offices or continue to work in a hybrid work-from-home model where employees are required to come to the office for only certain days of the week. In a bid to accommodate these IT employees, and to make working from home easier for them, AP Minister of Industries, Commerce and Information Technology, Mekapati Goutham Reddy, has launched the Work from Home Town (W@HT) project. Under this project, 29 Work from Home Town centres have been set up at various major cities in the state, including Visakhapatnam.

The website for this project was launched on Tuesday at an event in Vijayawada. During the event, the Industries Minister shared, “In order to support hybrid working models for extended periods of time, the State Government has implemented W@HT wherein work-from-home professionals can opt for co-working spaces which will have a range of facilities, including uninterrupted power supply, high speed internet connectivity, dedicated workstations, conference rooms and 24×7 access.”

As of now, this project is being implemented on a pilot basis. Currently, four such Work from Home Town centres have been set up in Visakhapatnam, three of which are at Vignan’s Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) in Gajuwaka, Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology & Science (ANITS) and Sunrise Incubation Hub at Madhurawada IT SEZ. There is one more centre, located at Dadi Institute of Engineering and Technology (DIET) in Anakapalle. These centres each have a capacity of accommodating 30 employees. Interested IT companies can also put in a request for dedicated centres if required.

Based on the response, plans are afoot to set up more Work from Home Town centres in Visakhapatnam and the rest of the state, at various engineering colleges and Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society (APIS) facilities.

Interested IT employees or employers can contact the APSSDC helpline 9988853335 or visit www.apit.ap.gov.in/wfht/ to register or to get more information on these centres.
