The city of Vizag is going to stage a prestigious world tournament of Snooker.
The 4th Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament is all set to be played in Visakhapatnam at Novotel from 12th to 16th September. The opening ceremony will take place on the 11th of September at Novotel. Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri. Chandrababu Naidu will be inaugurating the tournament. Many politicians, celebrities, bureaucrats, and players will also be participating in the opening ceremony.
All the players and officials will be provided with top class facilities. Also, to encourage snooker enthusiasts to attend this event in large numbers, entry to this tournament is free.
The snooker tournament comes as a major boost in making Visakhapatnam a destination for world class sporting events. The tournament will be witnessing some big names of the game. The list of players includes Stuart Bingham, Ricky Walden, Mark Allen, Stephen Maguire, Luca Brecel and David Gilbert. The star attraction, however, will be the four-time world champion and Scottish legend John Higgins.
Much to the disappointment of the fans, Indian superstar Pankaj Advani will not be participating in the event due to personal reasons. While Aditya Mehta will participate in the qualifying rounds, Laxman Rawat, Lucky Vatnani, Malkeet Singh, Srikrishna, Ashutosh Padhy and Pandurangaiah will be the wildcard entries from India.
The prize money of the tournament is a whopping 3,00,000 Pounds which is approximately 2.5 crores. The tournament will be telecast on Sony ESPN and Sony ESPN HD.
