Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, known as GITAM (deemed to be University), in Visakhapatnam, has emerged as one of the famous educational institutions. The institution which was established in 1980, has been a home to many successful people over the years. Going strong even after 37 years, GITAM remains as one of the most popular institutions in Andhra Pradesh.
The student life here is also pretty special. Apart from enjoying the typical elements of a student life, the students here also hear a lot of stereotypes from the public. These conceptions, or misconceptions, about GITAM have been existing for many years and the students, with no fault of theirs, need to face these stereotypes when out in the public. Here are 5 such common things that every “GITAMITE” in Visakhapatnam will relate to.
1) GITAM(S)? Dude, you must be a rich kid!
Agreed that the fee is higher as compared to other local colleges. But dude, just because someone studies at this college, it doesn’t mean he/she is a Richie Rich!
2) GITAM(S)? Oh, then you must be working at TCS
Agreed again that the number of candidates who join TCS is high but that is not the only company that comes here for recruiting! Other IT giants and core companies too bag a decent number of students to work for them.
3) (gitam)S
Don’t know when this plural form of the college will stop being put into use. The students here get fed up while telling the outsiders that it’s GITAM and not GITAMS! This hurts a lot btw :/
4) GITAM(S)? Oh you must be enjoying the colours (for boys)
“Bro, you study at GITAM(S)? Then you must be hanging out with girls all the time.” Except for a few playboys, the remaining ones know the reality. (Please don’t cringe).
5) Do you make short films? Or do you have a DSLR at least?
Oh, how dearly do we love those photo shoots of GITAMITES by GITAMITES? Or even the short films made by these guys are pretty good. But again, not everyone in GITAMITE carries a DSLR or makes a short film macha!!
So these were a few common things that the students at this college get used to during their tenure here.
