To enhance the learning outcomes of school-going children and to prevent dropouts from schools, Andhra Pradesh State Government is taking measures and initiatives to boost school infrastructure. In this endeavour, as part of the second phase of a makeover and refurbish exercise, 699 schools of Vizag have been selected for the Mana Badi – Nadu Nedu flagship programme. In the first phase, over 1,130 schools in Vizag had been refurbished as part of this exercise.
Reportedly, in the second phase of the programme, 593 Mandal Praja Parishad and Zilla Parishad schools, 57 municipal schools, 30 government schools, 18 tribal welfare schools and a Diet Institution from Bheemunipatnam in Vizag will go through a major makeover and will be refurbished. Initially, nine parameters were considered as part of the Mana Badi – Nadu Nedu programme control exercise. Now, an additional classroom has been added to the list. With this, each school will have to meet 10 parameters.
The State Government is making plans to accommodate the increased student strength. In this objective, close to 185 schools have been earmarked to have additional classrooms. Along with the 185 schools, a few Anganwadi centres have also been selected to go through a major fillip to attract a maximum number of students to schools.
It could be noted that over 44,512 government schools have been selected to go through this infrastructure transformation exercise. Over 15,715 schools were renovated in Andhra Pradesh during the first phase of the programme. Subsequently, the remaining schools have been planned to go through this exercise in a phased manner over the next three years.
