With mini-parks set up around every nook and corner of the city, Vizag proudly boasts a plethora of recreational centres for children and adults. As the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is set to construct seven theme parks in the city, let us have a look at famous parks in Vizag.
Now known as VMRDA Park, this place was one of the top entertainment centres of Vizag. From the skating rink to the playpen, the park housed several interesting features to enthrall the little ones.
Spread over 16 acres, the park was set up in 1999 in Sivajipalem. With beautiful floral attractions, swings, merry-go-rounds, and luscious play areas, Sivaji Park was loved by the kids back in the day. An amphitheatre has also been added to the place to make it more appealing to the kids.
Named in the memory of Indian politician, Tenneti Viswanadham, it is known to be one of the oldest parks in Vizag. Dressed in lush green and manicured lawns, the recreational facility overlooking the majestic Bay of Bengal, continues to be the crowd-favourite.
Be it school outings or Karthika Maasam picnics with family, a visit to Mudarsarlova Park was a must for Vizagites back then. Spread over 20 acres, it was constructed in 1902, by Mudarsarlova Reservoir. Adding a feather to its cap, a floating solar power plant has been set up by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.
Don’t we all dearly miss this place? Boasting several amusement rides, this adventure park was loved by the children of the bygone decade. The 360-degree spin ride and a rocket-shaped simulator were the crowd’s favourites. Due to maintenance and other issues, the amusement park was eventually shut down, a few years ago.
This list would be incomplete without the famous Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. From feeding the elephant to watching the peacock dance, the excitement on our faces while watching the animals and winged friends were quite immeasurable.
PS: Comment your favourite park in Vizag and share your sweet memories.
