To enhance the beauty of Visakhapatnam, as well as to increase the Swachh Bharat ratings, the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation is adorning the city with 150 new street dustbins by the end of the year. Vizag is to be beautified ahead of the CII Partnership Summit, which is to be held from 8-10 January 2017.
The street dustbins which are seen mounted on the poles, will now be installed in other streets as well. The tendering process for the same has been completed, acquiring 150 new bins. Though Visakhapatnam was ranked 5th in February 2016 Swachh Bharat ratings, the city, despite its exquisite beaches, took a nose-dive to 205th rank in August 2016.
As a part of the beautification drive under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the GVMC encourages the citizens to separate the biodegradable from non-biodegradable waste and to dispose them off in separate dustbins provided. They seek the help of Resident Welfare Associations to keep the city clean.
The civic authorities will start picking up the bulk garbage from commercial and business establishments and apartments. The municipal corporation hopes to start an awareness programme to sensitise the citizens to keep Visakha clean and green. The Resident Welfare Associations of CBM Compound, P&T Colony, JR Nagar Colony and a few other areas have already showed interest.
