Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently laid the foundation stone for spillway works of the Polavaram Project. The Union Government had granted Rs 1,981 crore to the state government towards the money being spent by it.
On the occasion, the CM stated that he was confident the project would be completed by 2019 and the spillway works will be done by this year end. His target is to start supplying water through it atleast by 2018. To the 1.80 lakh farmers who would be affected by this project, he said compensation would be paid as per the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
“Farmers have made a great sacrifice by giving nearly 31,000 acres of land for construction of the capital city. They have made a similar noble gesture for building this dam. The nation will never forget their contribution to development”, he stated. He further stated that the project would only remain a distant dream if not for PM Modi merging seven mandals of Khammam into Andhra Pradesh through an ordinance. Efforts are also being made to provide water to Visakhapatnam through the Yeluru project.
While wishing people of the state during New Year on his FB, he said –
2016 has been crucial year for us as we have moved the entire administration to the Capital region & began work on #Polavaram project and our People’s capital of #Amaravati.
Beginning from scratch in 2014, we have made tremendous progress despite several hurdles in our way. Our path has been thorny from the beginning. However, we have not stopped working towards our goal of re-building Andhra Pradesh.
In this year, 2017, we will witness fast-track work on several crucial projects in AP, as I continue to serve the people of my state with commitment and dedication.
