The state government is looking forward to building twin towers in the city, a la the one that used to be in the US. The twin towers will be the city’s world trade centre just like its parent structure.
According to TOI, Chief Secretary SP Tucker stated the same and said that the twin towers will be built on an area of four lakh square feet. The construction of the same has already been entrusted to a private agency. The towers will be holding a five star hotel too. Further discussions of the project took place at a meeting held in Amaravati yesterday.
He further stated that 10,000 houses will be built in the city for the sake of IT employees and to instigate the development of the IT sector. Previously, the twin towers proposed as Signature Tower at the IT SEZ facing Rushikonda had failed to evoke any response in the PPP mode. So there were reports that the project had been shelved.
Maybe this is the government’s attempt to bring the project back on track in a different manner. The Millennium Tower on the other hand is expected to be fully functional by the end of this year. Constructed on an investment of Rs 100 crore on a three lakh sq ft built up area, the Millennium Tower is expected to provide a much-needed base for various IT players and start-ups.
