The stink and the unhygienic appearance of the fishing harbour in the port city are set to be things of past. With a budget of Rs 40 crore, the makeover will make it look like the Munambam Harbor in Kerala.
The details of the harbour makeover
There is a detailed project rolled out which has been approved by the State Government. To implement this project, the government is going to take funds from Central Government. This will happen under the Sagarmala Project which aims at the economic development of the country.
Along with the funds from the Centre, there will be support from the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) as well. According to the detailed project report, there will be charges collected for parking and using the various amenities at the harbor. The port city is the largest exporting center for seafood having a turnover of Rs 7,500 crore.
It has been reportedly said that Joint Director of Fisheries P. Sankara Rao told that the government has decided to bring a significant improvement in the hygiene and sanitation at the harbor area. The standards are expected to be a match to the international standards. Once this plan starts being executed, the harbor will have 24/7 security and CCTV surveillance.
