In what is coming as a great news for all the people of Visakhapatnam, the city’s local municipal body, Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC), has bagged the award for the Best Urban Local Body. In terms of providing basic amenities to the public, GVMC stood ahead of the urban bodies of other cities in the state.
The municipal body holds the credits for appreciative works such as maintaining cleanliness, revenue collection, sanctioning important projects, etc. Interestingly, GVMC is capable of spending as much as Rs 200 crores for the development of the city.
The award was handed over to the GVMC commissioner, Mr. M.Harinarayanan, by the honourable Chief Minister of the state, Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu. Ace badminton player P.V. Sindhu and IT minister Nara Lokesh also participated in the event that was organized in Vijayawada on Monday. The commissioner thanked all the workers and staff of GVMC for making this possible.
Visakhapatnam, which bagged the fifth and the third spots in the Swachh Bharat rankings of the past, is striving hard to emerge as the cleanest city this time around. In fact, Visakhapatnam is the only city to be spending Rs 150 crores exclusively for the sake of Swachhta.
