Ask any person from Visakhapatnam and you will know the importance of the very popular open-air auditorium, Gurajada Kalakshetram to the cityscape. its open-air facility adds a thrilling experience to any art and cultural event that may take place there. It’s location and the fact that it’s been an integral part of the city has many yearning for it’s reopening. Well, the hopes may be answered very soon. With brand new finishing and additional revamp, the open air auditorium is slated for opening in December. what’s more is that it’s reopening may coincide with the inauguration of the aircraft museum by President Ramnath Kovind on December 7th.
The famous structure was badly damaged in the Cyclone Hudhud and was a big blow to the people of Visakhapatnam. The renovation work to give a brand new look to the place is almost over. From reports of Deccan Chronicle, we know that the pending work is limited to the seating and audio set up. A sum of 9.8 crores INR has gone into the refinishing works here. Measures have been taken to strengthen its defense against natural forces and calamities. Polycarbonate sheet roofing over steel trusses renders it more resilience.
Gurujada Kalakshetram The cement benches that one may remember are now being replaced by wooden seating and up to 4000 can now be accommodated.
Well the hopes are high and we would love to have our beloved auditorium back, there is no doubt in that. Hopefully, the work of GVMC staff and officials finish and we get a chance to see it sooner rather than later.
