The movie ‘Padmaavat’ has been stirring up major controversies in various fraternities ever since it was first announced. The movie, which stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles, has apparently hurt the sentiments of some groups that have been protesting against the film’s release.
The issue against ‘Padmaavat’ seems to have heated up in Visakhapatnam too. It has been reported that several organisations including Vishva Hindu Parishad, RSS, Bajrang Dal, Marwari and Agarwal associations, and Maharana Pratap Foundation jointly protested against the film’s release on Tuesday. They demanded that the movie should be banned for “distorting history”.
The protest was organised at the Gandhi statue in front of the GVMC office. After raising slogans against the film, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the collectorate demanding to halt the screening of the film in the country.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had permitted the movie’s release after the film’s unit revamped the version by editing certain parts of it.
A few days ago, protests were also organised by several women groups in Visakhapatnam against Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘God, Sex and Truth’. They accused Varma of portraying women in an objectionable manner and demanded the film shouldn’t be released.
