Congress President Rahul Gandhi said the party was committed to winning back the trust of the people in the North East. This comes three days after the election results in the states of Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya were revealed. While Congress couldn’t win a seat in the states of Tripura and Nagaland, it failed to form the government in Meghalaya despite winning the 21 seats, most number of seats by any party in the election, as UDP extended support to the local party National People’s Party (NPP).
“The Congress party respects the mandate of the people of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. We are committed to strengthening our party across the North East and to winning back the trust of the people. My sincere thanks to each and every Congress worker who toiled for the party,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.

The Congress President faced widespread criticism as he was in Italy one the day of the results. Rahul had tweeted that he was visiting his grandmother to surprise her on Holi.
“I received a message on WhatsApp that elections are being held in Italy,” BJP President Amit Shah said in a conference that was held after the outcome could clearly be anticipated.
