A noble initiative is soon set to be commenced by Visakhapatnam Railway station. A sanitary napkin vending machine is going to be launched at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station. The machine, named “Happy Nari”, is being set up in platform no.1. Each pad will be dispensed pad at Rs 5.
With this initiative, Visakhapatnam will be the second station in the East Coast Railway (ECoR), after Bhubaneswar, to have this facility. Currently, as told by the Railway officials, the machine, being installed on a trial basis, will have the capacity to dispense 50 sanitary napkins. The total dispense capacity is around 200 used napkins per day. It can then be refilled as per the requirement.
According to Indian Express, the sanitary napkin vending machine project is funded by the East Coast Railway Women Welfare Organization, under the Waltair division, at a cost of Rs 20,000 /-.In addition to this, the Railway officials also told that a trained female staff will refill the machine. The machine will commence operations this weekend. It has also been learned that depending on the response, the officials plan to install such machines at the railway stations of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam too.
