India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked among the top 10 most powerful people in the world by Forbes. The list, which was topped by China’s President Xi Jinping, has some other prominent persons.
While Russian President Vladimir Putin stood second on the list, Donald Trump and Germany’s Angela Merkel follow suit in the third and fourth positions respectively. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos bagged the fifth spot and Microsoft founder Bill Gates was announced as the 7th most powerful person in the world.
In a list comprising of 75 men, Narendra Modi stood 9th, ahead of Alphabet’s CEO Larry Page. The Indian Prime Minister also beat Facebook‘s Mark Zuckerberg (ranked 13), the United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May (14), and Apple CEO Tim Cook (24), among others.
“There are nearly 7.5 billion humans on planet Earth, but these 75 men and women make the world turn. Forbes’ annual ranking of The World’s Most Powerful People identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most,” Forbes said.
“India’s populist prime minister remains hugely popular in the second most populous country on earth, with a population of 1.3 billion people,” said Forbes. “He has also emerged as a key figure in the international effort to tackle climate change, as warming affects millions of his country’s rural citizen,” it further added.
Mukesh Ambani, ranked 32nd, is the only other Indian to feature on the list.
