On one side, people are happy with the development progress in Visakhapatnam and then there is this other side where, at the cost of development, the city is witnessing an immense increase of pollution levels. The factors just do not remain aligned with industries but there are much more. Here we present to you a list of the 5 most polluted areas in the city.
Junctions
Might be because of huge traffic jams or overpopulated vehicles on the road, junctions are one place where the air is filled with polluted smoke. The roads being congested in some of the junctions especially at Jagadamba and Asilmetta, one can find it hard to breathe normally due to the vehicular smoke. The pollution because of the traffic at NAD junction does not need a special mention.
Dumping yard
Visakhapatnam dumping yard is situated in Marikavalasa, on the way to Vizianagaram. This is the place where garbage accumulated in the city would be disposed. The waste collected here is either left unattended for days or burnt all at once. Such factors result in air pollution circulating around the neighbouring places.
Conveyer belt area
If one wants to take a route to the beautiful Ross Hill, the road along the conveyer belt is one of the options. The black dust on this road is like mandatory throughout the year. Especially during the rains, water gets coagulated which becomes difficult for the two-wheeled vehicles.
Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour
The harbour is renowned for its fishing business and exports. The daily activities here is a major livelihood for most of the people. At the same time, with the increase of boats in the harbour area, the oil from the boats is spreading over the sea water. The pollution is hazardous for the survival of aquatic creatures as the oil on the surface will not allow sunlight to pass through.
Port Area
Considered to be the shortest way to reach the airport from the city, the port area is one of the most preferred routes for to and fro. Being an industrial zone and passing by of heavy vehicles mainly with loads of coal, the port road is mostly accumulated with black dust throughout. The pollutant outlet from the industries surrounding the port road gets coagulated in the sewers which flow alongside in some parts of the road. The polluted air from the factories is said to be spreading in the neighbouring colonies and even towards the Convent Junction which is dusty most of the time.
