To take necessary measures on decreasing pollution due to the open handling of cargo, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) officials are alloting Rs 30.44 crore as a part of ‘Swachhta Action Plan’.
VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, after hoisting the national flag and attending the ceremonial parade at the Kalavani Port Stadium, said that restricting pollution at the port is the main task. He also mentioned that VPT is moving forward in terms of indulging in social welfare activities by providing education, health, sanitation and skill development for the localities benefit.
“The port has been declared the second cleanest for the second consecutive year under Swachh Bharat Mission. The VPT has been placed in the ‘good category’ in performance by Dun & Bradstreet. It has also been awarded first prize in an industrial category as part of AP Green Awards-2017,” Mr. Krishna Babu said.
The first phase of iron ore handling mechanisation has started at Rs 580.89 crores for this financial year.
