With the working permission granted by the ministry of defence, a new route is all set to be laid via Laxmi Nagar to connect Gopalapatnam and national highway in Visakhapatnam to ease traffic at NAD Junction.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) would be working on this project so that the commuters from Gopalapatnam can avoid NAD junction to touch the highway. The road would ease around 20-25% traffic at the junction and for this, a 1,562 square metres of defence land from NSTL has been opted by GVMC.
Vizag West MLA PVGR Naidu (Gana Babu), said, “The road will help reduce the traffic burden on the NAD junction. We were finally successful in getting the required approvals from the defence ministry through our continuous efforts.”
The NAD junction is one of the prime centres in Visakhapatnam and faces traffic related issues throughout the day. A busy junction, which is a part of NH5, that is well connected to the airport and other prominent locales in the city, this place requires better management of the traffic congestion and the upcoming NAD flyover is deemed to do the same.
The project, which was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore, is expected to be completed by November 2019.
