What comes in as a shocking incident is the death of two TDP politicians, including a sitting MLA of Araku, allegedly in the hands of the Maoists. The brutal incident took place at Dumbriguda mandal in Araku, an agency area of Visakhapatnam.
According to the reports, while MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MLA Siveri Soma were travelling to a nearby village for a party meeting, around 20 Maoists stopped the car and forced both the leaders to get down.
Weapons of the three security officers comprising two 9mm pistols and 9mm carbine were seized by the Maoists giving them no chance to open fire. Then, the two leaders were taken a few meters away from the vehicle and were shot down point black with hands tied. At least three to four bullets were shot into each of the politicians, resulting in their immediate death.
Kidari Sarveswara Rao was elected from Araku in Visakhapatnam from the YSRCP in 2014 elections and switched loyalties to the TDP in 2016. Police are assuming that the attack took place on the occasion of the formation week of the Communist Party of India.
IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh has responded about the incident on his Twitter profile. He termed it to be brutal and offered condolence to the leaders’ families.
