Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh confirmed that he will be contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections of the state. As per a report by the ToI, the further added that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) would decide the seat from where he would contest.
Speaking to the reporters, the IT Minister said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had already cleared the names for 100 seats of the 175 Assembly seats in the state. Lokesh also made it clear that he would not be contesting from the Kuppam constituency, a seat that his father, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, has been holding since 1989.
Nara Lokesh, who has been an active member with the TDP since 2009, was inducted into the state cabinet in February 2017, after the TDP politburo proposed his name for nomination to the state legislative council.
The move to field Nara Lokesh in the upcoming elections might come in response to the oppositions’ criticism of the manner in which he was drawn into the state cabinet.
