Vizag has always been counted as one of the major tourist attractions in the country. A city that is sandwiched between verdant hills and sparkling sea, Vizag has drawn attention of tourists from different corners of the world, thereby emerging as a prime tourist destination.
In the past few years, officials have put in efforts to boost the district’s image as a tourist hub, paving the way to newer attractions in and around the city. From organising enterprising fests to introducing exciting events, several developments have kept the tourists hooked to Vizag.
Working with the same spirit, the officials now plan to bring in a few more developments in the tourism sector of the district. Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, and Tourism Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena, who recently addressed a press meet at the launch of the Araku Balloon Festival in the city, provided details on the same.
As per the information provided, the officials are planning to revamp the Buddhist Circuit in Vizag to turn it into a major tourist attraction in the city. Also, development of eco tourism and promotion of tourist friendly activities constitute the plans for the district.
Informing that the Rushikonda Beach in the city has bagged the ‘Blue Flag’ tag, Mr Rao said that the government is planning to implement beach development activities in 9 areas. He also mentioned the distinction of Scuba Diving on offer in Vizag and informed that the officials are planning to promote water sports at Mangamaripeta.
At the same time, the Minister pointed out that there was a need to make our beaches safer and assured that efforts would be put in to achieve the same.
It may be noted that the recently concluded Visakha Utsav and the ongoing Araku Balloon Festival are two of the government’s marquee events for Vizag. Also, Vizag Yachting Festival is expected to be organised in March.
