The Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association (APATA) revealed that there was a growth in passenger traffic at Visakhapatnam Airport for the year 2018-19. In an official release, the APATA stated that there was a 15% growth in the passenger traffic during the specified year.
“About 28,53,990 lakh passengers travelled from Visakhapatnam airport for the financial year 2018-19, whereas the number of passengers travelled, who during the corresponding period for the financial year 2017-18 was 24,81,666 lakh,” the release stated.
Reportedly, the aircraft movement witnessed a growth rate of 21% during 2018-19. While the aircraft movement was noted at 20,021 for the FY 2017-18, the same for the year 2018-19 has been registered at 24,237. “Currently, 60 flight movements per day are being observed from Visakhapatnam Airport in spite of the withdrawal of Jet Airways and shortage of Aircraft due to various reason,” APATA noted in its release.
“There is a growth rate of 24% in the domestic cargo handle through Vizag Airport in the FY 2018-19. Around 6,013 tons of cargos were handled for the FY year 2018-19 against 4,845 tons that were handled during the corresponding period of 2017-18,” the release further added.
APATA also stated that it would take up the issue of high airfares with the Ministry of Civil Aviation for taking necessary measures. Also, DGCA has recently asked airlines to reduce fares on 10 domestic routes to “reasonable” levels.
