The sun has been showing no mercy whatsoever on Vizag over the past few days. After the brief pleasant weather, caused as a result of Cyclone Fani, the scorching weathers are back in the city, much to the agony of its hapless citizens. Adding to the hot weather are high levels of humidity that have turned Vizag into a sultry roaster.
Vizag city, on Thursday, recorded a maximum temperature close to 39ºC, while Anandapuram reportedly recorded in excess of 40ºC. The sun has been blazing away from as early as 9 in the morning, causing the city’s streets to be deserted during the afternoons. “The last few days have been extremely testing. While being outdoors is getting increasingly challenging in this hot weather, staying indoors isn’t an easy task either without an air conditioner,” shares Swarna, a homemaker in the city.
With the heat wave continuing to torch the city, the sights of motorcyclists battling hot winds, citizens thronging cold drink vendors and daily wagers seeking shelter under trees have turned pretty familiar. “With a rise in the humidity levels over the past couple of days, the weather in Vizag has become very sultry. As a precautionary measure, children and senior citizens should be advised against venturing into the sun during the day time and avoid falling prey to dehydration,” shares Rajeswara Rao, who is a retd. professor in the city.
Similar conditions are being witnessed across Andhra Pradesh. Reportedly, as per the state’s Real Time Governance Society (RTGS), Andhra is likely to experience “severe” heat wave in the next few days. With the temperature likely to rise to 47 degrees, the general public has been advised to remain cautious.
