In one of the biggest ganja hauls in Visakhapatnam in the last couple of years, Narsipatnam Town police captured about 2,500 kg ganja worth over ₹2.5 crores on Monday. A Chhattisgarh-registered lorry, from Malkangiri district in Odisha, was stalled at Degree College Junction. Three persons who were transporting this load have also been taken into custody.
The ganja, which was seized in Visakhapatnam district on Monday. was allegedly procured from the interior areas of Malkangiri. Reportedly, the vehicle was to be taken till Tuni, of East Godavari district, after which, other members of this illicit trade were to take over the vehicle.
The Narsipatnam (town) Circle Inspector, Lakshman Rao, stated that the ganja packets were packed in between loads of rice bran. The police believe that the final destination would have been the Northern States.
Youth carrying ganja meet with a horrible car accident in Vizag
In related news, Saturday night witnessed a horrible accident, on Araku-Pendurthi Road, when a lorry rammed into a car carrying three youngsters. Two boys, unfortunately, died on the spot while the third was critically injured. The police also found several packets of ganja in the car. It is believed that the trio had procured ganja at Araku Valley and was returning to the city. They were also apparently under the influence of alcohol.
