In yet another drug haul in Visakhapatnam, police seized 690 kg of dry ganja from 2 men at Balighattam check post near Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district on Friday. The accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar Mourya (27) and Mohan Kishore Sharma (26).
The police revealed that the load, which is worth ₹1 crore, was being shifted to Delhi. They further informed that the accused had reached Visakhapatnam through the air route and then went to Chintapalle to procure their stock. While travelling back, the cops had seized ganja from gunny bags in specially designed cabins in the vehicle. However, on being caught, the smugglers claimed that they were sent to Visakhapatnam by their main in Delhi.
Narsipatnam town police station CI Lakshmana Rao, who suspects a planned operation in the case, informed that the accused were sent by Balwinder Singh from North Delhi. Singh, who told them that one of his vehicles broke down at GK Veedhi area in Visakhapatnam district, asked them to get it repaired and bring back to Delhi. He also arranged flight tickets for them. The accused claimed that they had no idea about the cannabis that was stored in the vehicle.
Both Mourya and Sharma have been taken into custody and a case has been filed in this regard.
The latest bust comes into light just a few days after the Narsipatnam cops had seized 2500 kg of ganja in Visakhapatnam. Considered to be one of the biggest drug hauls in recent times, the incident saw the police take three individuals into custody for involving in the unlawful act.
