A cake mixing ceremony, hosted by Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach on Saturday, flagged off Christmas celebrations in Vizag. The high-spirited event had a limited gathering with individuals wearing face masks and observing other safety measures given the prevailing pandemic situation. From a heady mix of nuts and spices while mixing the goodness to a host of fun-filled activities, the cheerful mixing ceremony, held by the poolside, saw the guests take part in the age-old tradition of muddling a delicious spread. Staff and chefs of Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach too took part in the event to add to the fervour.
The culinary team, led by Executive Chef Krishna Kishore, platted a host of nuts which consisted of – tutti-fruity, raisins, cashews, apricots, and almonds with a variety of alcohol for the heady mix at the poolside lawn. The enthusiastic participants fully prepared with gloves and aprons ready to dip their hands to this mixture, added variations of alcohol to the ingredients to create the mixture for the cakes for the festive season.

The cheer and camaraderie added all the zest and zeal to the merrymaking celebration. We also ensured that social distancing was maintained and all the required safety precautions were followed”.
Cake mixing in earlier times was an opportunity for people to come together, and this tradition is considered as a preface to Christmas for making the much desired Christmas Plum cakes. Chef Krishna further explained that this heady mixture of nuts and alcohol will be stored in a vat container till the Christmas week and cakes will then be made from this mixture.
