Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar took a jibe at actor Aamir Khan for his statement of leaving India. He made the following statement after releasing journalist Nitin Gokhale’s Marathi version of his book on Siachen.
Parrikar said, “One actor had said that his wife wants to live outside India. It was an ‘arrogant’ statement. If I am poor and my house is small, I will still love it and always dream to make a bungalow out of it“, without mentioning Aamir Khan’s name.
Aamir Khan commented last November that he was ‘alarmed’ by the incidents he faced in the name of ‘intolerance’. He also said that his wife wanted to move out of this country since she feared the kind of atmosphere her son would grow up in.
A lot of people protested against that statement made by Aamir Khan and also uninstalled the mobile application of the shopping website he was endorsing. He was later taken out by the company. Recently when the poster of his upcoming movie ‘Dangal’ was released, many people swore to ban the movie.
Parrikar added that those who speak against the nation must be taught a lesson by the people of that nation.
This statement by the Defence Minister has brought back the most controversial Tolerance- Intolerance debate! Supporters of Aamir Khan, Bollywood actors & leaders of the opposing parties have criticised the Minister for his comment. They pointed out how Aamir had the right to express his opinion & how he could maybe concentrate more on major issues like the missing Air Force flight – AN-32. Ouch!
