To provide statewide skill training, a World Skills Academy is going to be set up in Visakhapatnam. Approval has been given from the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for the setting up of this academy in Visakhapatnam. This academy will be utilised to train participants in the World Skills Competition, which takes place every two years.
WorldSkills undertakes skill training all over the world, with more than 85 member countries. At this academy, students will be able to learn in over 20 different disciplines. Land for this academy will be allotted soon by the State Government. This academy will be constructed in Visakhapatnam by the WorldSkills, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).
This academy will help train students for the upcoming Regional Skills Competition in Visakhapatnam, which will act as a precursor to the World Skills Competition 2022 in Shanghai. This event will take place from 30 November 2021 to 4 December 2021 where participants will be showcasing their skills in 52 different trades.
In September 2021, the Andhra Pradesh State Government had announced plans to set up skill colleges in every parliamentary constituency, along with two high-end skill universities. With the proposed World Skills Academy in Vizag, students will get the opportunity to learn a diverse range of skills and come up with new innovations.
