With Diwali coming up, security officials at the Visakhapatnam railway station have intensified luggage checks. In this regard, passengers have been informed that it’s illegal to carry any inflammable substances like firecrackers on the train or on the station premises in Visakhapatnam. Special squads have been constituted to ensure that all luggage is checked thoroughly and no illegal substances pass through.
One of the major concerns is firecrackers. Many people take firecrackers on their journey. However, this is extremely dangerous and can lead to fire accidents in the train, hence compromising the safety of all passengers. Other inflammable substances like explosives, gas cylinders, acid, kerosene, petrol, diesel, etc. aren’t allowed either. It is a punishable offence under the Railway Act 1989 and the offender can get a prison sentence of up to 3 years.
All passengers have been requested to not carry any of the above-mentioned inflammable substances during their train journeys from Visakhapatnam. If passengers find anyone carrying these substances on the train, they should report this infringement to on-duty railway staff like the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner), coach attendants, train guards, station managers, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel at the earliest. Passengers can also register their complaint through the railway helpline number 182.
This is paramount in safeguarding the train passengers and railway property. The Waltair Railway Division is also making frequent announcements on all railway stations under its jurisdiction, warning passengers about this. Civil Defence personnel have also been deployed at Visakhapatnam railway station to ensure that no firecrackers or explosives are allowed on the train.
