The Telugu Mahila activists protested against the electricity tariff hike at the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) Superintendent Engineer’s Office, here in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, 5 April 2022.
Similarly, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) protested against the same issue earlier this month because the Electricity Regulatory Commission had issued a new tariff for domestic consumers. The tariff hike ranged from 45 paise to Rs 1.57 per unit in six different slabs. The opposition protested for an immediate rollback of the hike. Similarly, the Telugu Mahila activists alleged that the situation has worsened under the new government. The President of Telugu Mahila Visakhapatnam District, Sarvasiddhi Anantalakshmi, mentioned that under the previous Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu the state had a steady supply of electricity 24 hours a day. She also alleged that the price has been hiked 7 times since Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed power three years ago.
The activist emphasised the issue pointing out how a common man could not even afford to use the fans in the summer due to these continuous price hikes. The president, along with all the other activists and leaders, protested against the tariff hike and called for a rollback of the new tarrif. Activists and leaders Gangalla Satyavathi, B. Ramadevi, B. Umarani, Manda Devi, P. Kusalamma, and S. Uma were among the others who took part in the protest against the electricity tariff hike in Visakhapatnam.
