Plan India along with US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Coca Cola Pvt. Lmt. launched the ‘Urban WASH – Swachh Bharat – Swachh Vidyalaya’ project in a GVMC school in Madhuranagar. It was inaugurated by Johnathon Addleton, Mission Director of USAID, India along with Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Commissioner, M Hari Narayanan and Visakhapatnam District Collector, Pravin Kumar. Held under the ‘Support my School’ program, this covers a total number of 60 schools under the municipal corporation will be covered in this project across Pune, Dehradun and Visakhapatnam.
This program will initiate a mindset of a clean environment in a school through students. This project will help 12,000 students across the mentioned cities and will promote good sanitation practices along with the effective use and ownership of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. This project will also help the students to have access to portable drinking water and proper sanitary conditions.
It is a three year project under which toilets and sinks will be constructed and the importance of sanitation will be taught to the students. Through this the students will learn and will spread the message of the program.
This program will act as a catalyst to the Swachh Bharat Campaign of the Government of India.
