In fact there are major developments planned for all of Andhra Pradesh – new airports, digital literacy, the list goes on. The next development on the list in Vizag is the coming up of the Film Nagar Cultural Club.
HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, MP K Haribabu, Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) President Rajendra Prasad and MLA K Kala Venkatrao laid the foundation stone for Film Nagar Cultural Club at Thotlakonda. On the occasion, the HRD Minister said that the government would soon allocate lands to the film industry for putting up studios. Rajendra Prasad, Puri Jagannadh, VV Vinayak and Ramcharan are amongst the film fraternity who have applied for lands for film related activities. They will soon be allocated lands.
The government allocated 15 acres for the cultural centre last year and the MAA has begun the construction that will cost them Rs 100 crore. The cultural centre will also reportedly comprise a 2200 capacity convention centre, sports complex and a gym. MP K Haribabu said that Visakhapatnam is conducive for film industry and 350 acres have been identified for the same. Rajendra Prasad recalled on the occasion how long ago Visakhapatnam was showcased by K Balachander in ‘Maro Charitra’ or ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’.
