AB de Villiers
In a major shock to all the cricket fans across the globe, South African cricketer AB de Villiers has announced retirement from all forms of international cricket.
Taking to his official Twitter account, the superstar said, “I’ve decided to retire from all forms of the game with immediate effect. After 114 Test matches, 228 One Day Internationals, and 78 T20 Internationals, it is time for others to take over. I’ve had my turn and to be honest, I’m tired.”
The star batsman went on to say, “This is a tough decision. I’ve thought long and hard about it, and I’d like to retire while still playing decent cricket. After the fantastic series runs against India and Australia, I feel now is the right time to step aside.”
ABD, as he’s fondly called, said he has “run out of gas” and thanked all his fans across South Africa and the world for their kindness, generosity, and understanding. AB said that he would like to play for his domestic side and keep supporting the national captain Faf du Plessis and Proteas.
AB de Villiers further thanked his teammates and support staff of Cricket South Africa for all the support.
The South African played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2018 and finished the tournament with 480 runs from 12 matches. The man also was hailed for his spectacular catch on the boundary and was compared to Superman for his acrobatic abilities.
Considered to be one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era, AB de Villiers holds certain merits to his name, including the record for the fastest 100 and 150 in ODIs. The right-handed cricketer also enjoys a wide following in India and the chants of “AB..AB…” go deafeningly loud when he takes strides at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
We wish a happy retirement to our favourite batsman.
