In a shocking news that came to light earlier this week, a Swiss couple was attacked by a gang of attackers in Fathepur, near Agra. Quentin Jeremy Clerc and his girlfriend, Marie Droz, were chased by the gang and assaulted with sticks and stones. While Quentin was suffered a fractured skull, Marie got many of her bones fractured.
The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested five people, including three minors, in connection with this case. The Hindu quoted a senior official saying, “The culprits have told us that they wanted to rob valuable stuff like a camera from the Swiss couple. Section 326 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), which is related to voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, has been added to the FIR (First Information Report).”
External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, asked the Uttar Pradesh Police for a detailed report of the incident. The minister also informed that Droz was discharged from the hospital while Clerc’s condition was improving.
The state’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, said that the people responsible for this act will be severely punished. The state’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, said that the people responsible for this act will be severely punished.
The incident has, yet again, put a scar on the face of the tourism sector in India and seems like the motto “Atithi Devo Bhava” is set to take a major dent.
