Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu‘s ambitions for Amaravati seem to be scaling new heights, quite literally. In the latest, it has been reported that the new assembly building in Amaravati will be taller than the recently unveiled Statue of Unity in Gujarat, which stands 182 m tall and is currently the tallest statue in the world.
Reportedly, the upcoming assembly building in Amaravati would be 68 m taller than the Statue of Unity, tipping its tower at a vertical height of 250 m.
Speaking to media, Minister for municipal administration, P Narayana said that the proposed design will be constructed in the shape of an upside-down lily flower. The government would call for tenders for the same by the end of November and the process will expectedly be completed in two years.
The Minister also informed that the Chief Minister had suggested a few minor changes in the final design proposed by UK-based architects Norma Fosters.
The assembly building is also expected to have two galleries- one at 80 m high and the other at 250 m high to treat people to the sights of Amaravati city.
With the Statue of Unity drawing criticism from different quarters for spending close to Rs 3000 crores, the new announcement that the Andhra Pradesh assembly will be taller than it is turning heads.
There were also reports that the states of Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka were planning to build their respective grand statues.
