Congratulatory messages started pouring in for Gukesh Dommaraju, known as Gukesh D, who has become the youngest world chess champion.
Born in Chennai to a family hailing from the Godavari region in Andhra Pradesh, the 18-year-old boy won the title by defeating Ding Liren of China.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Gukesh on his global achievement.
The Chief Minister, in a message, said: “Hearty congratulations to our Telugu boy on scripting history in Singapore by becoming the world’s youngest chess champion.”
He wished the boy to register more triumphs in future.
Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, while congratulating the youngest chess champion, said: “You made history at the age of 18 and made the Indians proud. I wish you more victories in the future.”
Several celebrities from the Telugu film industry congratulated Gukesh.
Actor Chiranjeevi said in a tweet: “Wow… Just wow! My heart is swelling with pride. Gukesh… What a phenomenal feat! India is proud of you! 18 years old and the 18th World Chess Champion. Only the second Indian in history! And the youngest World Champion ever! Mera Bharat Mahan!”
“A grand salute to Gukesh. India’s wonder and the youngest World Chess Champion. Wishing you many more victories in your journey ahead,” said Junior NTR.
Director Rajamouli tweeted: “Congratulations, Gukesh, on becoming the youngest World Chess Champion. You made the country proud on the global stage. Jai Hind!”
Actor Kamal Haasan and others also congratulated Gukesh on the grand victory.
