By securing the top place in the Ease of Living Index by the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, Andhra Pradesh has added another feather in its hat.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry declared the results and speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the index would help in developing the urban living in different states of the country.
“The Ease of Living Index seeks to assist cities in undertaking a 360-degree assessment of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats,” Puri said.
Andhra Pradesh left behind some of the majorly developed states like Delhi, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. Odisha bagged the second place while Madhya Pradesh stood third.
IT Minister of AP, Nara Lokesh, took to his Twitter account and expressed happiness over Andhra Pradesh setting new benchmarks in evidence-based urban planning and execution that other states will emulate.
The ranks are allocated as per the following weightage
The rankings of Ease of Living Index is determined on the weightage of certain categories.The ‘physical’ pillar (infrastructure) was given the highest weight of 45, while institutional (governance) and social were weighted 25 each. The economy was weighted 5.
.AMRUT was launched by Prime Minister of Narendra Modi in June 2015 to improve the quality of life of people in urban areas.
