The age of energy efficient transport is here and Andhra Pradesh govt. is keeping up with the times. In the very 1st phase, 1500 electric buses will be introduced on the streets of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. What’s more is that, these buses are ready for delivery and may be coming sooner rather than later. This is as per an announcement by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) (Union Ministry of Power) Managing Director Saurabh Kumar who said the EE vehicles were ready for delivery to different cities in Andhra Pradesh.
1500 energy efficient buses are to be given to Andhra Pradesh on priority basis as per agreement and the cities to recieve them first would be Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. The back up services required for smooth operations of these buses such as charging stations would also be readied and established at the soonest. APSRTC is looking after the introduction of e-mini buses on Tirupati Tirumala ghat and it is only after tests were conducted that the application for these vehicles were sent to the center.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh govt has also requested the Union Govt to increase subsidy for ebuses as the cost of each of these buses is 3 crores and the Center is providing only 85 lakhs. This futuristic vehicle is a step towards modern transport and on the streets of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati it is sure to be a big hit.
