Amidst all the rumors, tech giant Google has confirmed that it’ll be launching its next mobile operating system today. The new software, Android 8.0, is named as Android O where O stands for Oreo.
In its official page, Google confirmed the news by posting “Android O is touching down to Earth with the total solar eclipse, bringing some super sweet new powers!” (In case you didn’t know, the United States is set to experience a solar eclipse today)
Google will be officially releasing the Android O today at an event in the New York City at 2.40pm EST. This would mean to be around 12.10 am on Tuesday in India.
Oreo enables you to use your phone with greater ease. It keeps background apps under check and controls them when not in active use. This ensures that the background apps use fewer resources. Hence, along with an efficient memory, we would be able to encash greater processing power and longer battery life.
However, it’s important to note that not all phones all phones can be upgraded to Oreo. So if your phone can be upgraded, you need to follow the following steps to install it.
1) In the Settings section of your phone, go to the ‘About phone’ section
2) Next, go to the “Android version” and “Android security patch level” and click on ‘Get the latest Android updates’
3) Finally, upon clicking, your phone will be automatically updated to the new software.
You can watch the launch event live at https://www.android.com/eclipse/
In fact, phones that are confirmed to get this update are Pixel and Nexus phones. Also, Nokia and OnePlus phones are bound to get it.
