The aqua farmers are being facilitated with the aquatic quarantine facilities in Visakhapatnam which is being set up by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and Andhra Pradesh government in order to encourage farming of L Vannamei, a brood stock imported in large quantity.
Vannamei also known as white- leg shrimp has become quite popular among exporters due to its immense demand in Europe, the United States and other areas. Farmers as of now are forced to go the aquatic quarantine facilities located in Chennai for testing the samples and once the facilities are established here many farmers from the coastal districts will be benefited will gear up the system to meet challenges in the international market with the cooperation of the stakeholders which will also increase the exports.
On being enquired about the problems of the stakeholders they urged the MPEDA to set up shrimp testing labs, provide single window for all the registrations and permissions for aqua farms and regulate the quality of aqua inputs of the state. This will enable a vast scope for the overseas marketing and will act as a common platform for sustainable aquaculture development in Andhra Pradesh
