The colours of Vizag: The city’s local art at display in an art exhibition

For the art enthusiasts in Vizag, an exhibition has been organised in the city. Called the Andhra Pradesh Art Festival-2021, the exhibition is taking place at Hawa Mahal, RK Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. Art enthusiasts can visit this exhibition and check out all the local artwork that is on display till Thursday, 28 October 2021. There is no entry fee for this exhibition and people can visit it anytime from 11 AM to 7 PM.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Monday by the Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, LKV Ranga Rao IPS. Being the first major art-related event in Vizag, since the Covid-19 pandemic began, a wide variety of art from 90 artists is on display. Popular Vizag artists like G Ravinder Reddy, V Ramesh, B Maheswara Das and Venkat Bothsa

have also included their art in this exhibition.

Additionally, the exhibition is for the many Fine Arts students in Vizag, as illustrated by the curator Mr. Kattakuri Ravi himself. “This exhibition is a platform for the Fine Arts students in the city to showcase their art and get some recognition. I didn’t select or curate any of the artwork. The artists were free to come and exhibit any of their artwork. Through this exhibition, I aim to show the artistic talent that lies in the city of Vizag.” The art that has been displayed in the exhibition is for sale.

The exhibition has a wide range of artwork, from acrylic paintings to charcoal paintings to sculptures. Much of the art is about Vizag – its popular locales like the harbour, and the lives of the people here. Many of the paintings here make social commentary as well while some are to just infuse curiosity in people.

The art scene in Vizag is still in the early stages. In such a case, exhibitions like this one help in acquainting the people of Vizag with local artwork and artists.
